The Lisboa, Stories of Macau

I had the opportunity to lead the creative process for MCW’s six-part animated experience celebrating the history and glamour of Macau’s iconic Lisboa Hotel. I worked on everything from the initial art direction and concept development to storyboarding and final illustrations, creating a cohesive visual style across the entire series.

The project was created for a large-scale exhibition at Lisboa Casino, taking visitors on a journey through Macau’s history, from its Portuguese colonial period to the present day. Instead of simply watching a screen, visitors look through binoculars at a miniature replica of the Lisboa Hotel and uncover the stories hidden inside it.

This was the first project where I got to design such a large cast of characters, and I absolutely loved it! One of the most exciting challenges was bringing real historical figures to life as cartoon characters. I had to find the right balance between capturing their recognisable features and giving them a playful, expressive style that would fit naturally into the animated world. It was a wonderful opportunity to combine historical research, character design, and storytelling.
